Testosterone
for Women?
August
5, 2003
Indeed,
Says a Well-known Nutrition
Doctor Dr. Frederic J.
Vagnini, a cardiovascular
specialist who offers
nutritional counsel to
prevent heart disease
and other health problems,
answered questions about
nutritional treatment
for sexual dysfunction
on the Bob Berkowitz "Naked
New York" Show.
"Two
things have been very
effective for improving
libido in women. One is
DHEA, a natural adrenal
hormone that you can get
over the counter. The
other is testosterone.
Many physicians don"t
realize that women should
be taking a little testosterone.
We measure testosterone
levels in women in my
practice. It is also very
good for bones and the
prevention of osteoporosis."
In the
interview Dr. Vagnini
also commented on other
natural therapies for
sexual enhancement. Surprisingly,
he stated that there is
some truth to the advertisements
for penis enlargement,
"It"s a fact
that many of the nutrients
I"ve mentioned --
argenine, hawthorne, ginko
biloba, yohimbine -- increase
blood flow to the body"s
organs and they can have
a penile enlargement effect."
Because
heart disease and sexual
dysfunction are often
connected, Dr. Vagnini
includes a section on
sexual health in his newest
book Dr. Vagnini"s
Healthy Heart Plan (Safe
Goods Publishing, 2002).
In it he discusses sex
and hypertension, sex
and drugs, sex after a
heart attack, sex and
aging, and lifestyle influences
on sexual function.
